I agree with erikpechnick. IVF usually creates more zygotes than are actually implanted into the mother's uterus. The rest of these zygotes are disposed of after the couple decides their family is complete. Because I think zygotes are human, disposing of them would be considered abortion because these innocent human beings, that have the right to life as much as you or me, are being then killed. With this being said, one cannot be against abortion but for IVF. But like erikpechnick was saying, if there was some way that all of the zygotes used in IVF were implanted into the mother's uterus and none were disposed of than I would say that you could be against abortion but support IVF.

I agree when Isabelle says its an over reach to say IVF is an abortion. The embryo may not be developed but it is still a potential human in abortion. In IVF though, rather then killing the embryo we are giving the woman the embryo which can be a potential human being. The IVF is helping the woman who cannot have the baby and is not the same as abortion because it is not killing the embryo.

I think that Chrisl brought up an interesting point when he said he believes the embryo is just a fertilized egg, so it has no rights. When deciding an opinion on abortion and ivf the same sort of question Is asked: Is an embryo a human life or not. In reality the two opinions of the concepts should be similar, but as I previously stated, it depends on the circumstance and other factors that affect it such as mr Daniels point about how the family did not destroy any embryos.

Isabelle, i really like how you put that, that how discarding embryos is far from abortion. i dont believe abortion should be legal because its killing innocent babies but i disagree with the church saying ivf takes away lives.

Yes, but only if no embryos are destroyed in the process of IVF.
