I agree with you somewhat Will about having a girl on the team. What I disagree with is that may not be a huge reason why grown men wouldn't want a woman on an all male team. The reason may be that the game may be too physical for the woman and they may not contribute as much as the other players also privacy might be somewhat invaded in terms of for example changing or showering in the locker room.

I completly agree with jovannes point of how if a group of guys wanted to play football and a girl asked to join it would not be social acceptable so in the end the girl would not get played or the guys would not pick her. sports are very sexist in our everyday lives. For example, at Loyola you are not allowd to join the cheerleadin team if you are a guy. This is sexist because at other schools there are guy cheerleards and loyola discriminates agaisnt young men wanting to become cheerleaders.

i agree with reckamp with this sexist issue in sports. its not sexist to say the greiner couldnt compete against and nba player, its just that the nba harbors some of the best atghletes in the world and lkike the article said, men tend to be the superior athletes. its not sexist its just fact that the best male athletes are better than the best women athletes.

I think everyone has a good point about this topic. I understand why people said what they said. Will you had a good point with a girl joining a boys team and Daveonne I understand where you are coming from when you said it might be because of privacy and I agree with you both. I believe that sports are very sexiest but I think they are sexist for a good reason. I think the point is to try and keep everything fair and equal in a weird and twisted way

I totally agree with what Megan said way earlier in this forum. I think in our society today it natural for us to think that men's sports are better and more exciting than women's sports. From what we naturally know, this is our most logical instinct. I think this is very similar to the way racism played a role in our society in the past and still today. For example, in the movie, after racism had been established in the United States, it was just a common thing to make mortgages harder to obtain for blacks than whites. I think this is very similar to what goes on with the sexism in male and female sports also.

To what Ryan said, I never actually thought of that parallel. Can you elaborate more on that and how the two relate?

Going off peters argument I think your being sexist in that statement. You say how sports arent sexist but people want to see the best that’s why they watch men sports. What information can you back up that mens basketball is quicker and electrifying when some women are better athletes than some male athletes. I do agree that people do want to see the most exciting but as Margret walker was saying, many people don’t even give the women’s sport a chance. Like Liz and Megan were saying people downgrade women and use jokes about being bad about sports by comparing them to women. Hannah brings up a good point how girls are left out of boy sports and boys are let out of girl sports even though at Loyola u can be on the cheerleading team as a boy!

Just to clarify I never said that men are always better athletes, I just said that they are usually more fun to watch. There are plenty of women's sports that are exciting to watch as well.

Haha I'm going to post on this forum again, but, just to be fair, I wanted to point out that if you watched the videos at the end of the article: sports medicine, psychology, training, fitness, nutrition, etc. (technology stuff) has improved a lot since those skinny guys with short shorts, set shots, and converse...perhaps that could account for some of the difference you see between them and the women?

Meg, I agree with you about how the NBA may be more exciting to watch than the WNBA and that the female olympic soccer team is more exciting to watch than the mens. However, that doesn't mean that female athletes get the credit that they deserve. For example, I know for a fact that most guys don't know any players on the US National team besides Alex Morgan and Hope Solo because of their appearance. I feel like people become bandwagon fans because of one or two popular players when it comes to female sports, and they don't actually genuinely enjoy and respect the sport.

Ok peter i misunderstood but margret and meg i agree that different sports are different with men and women. some may be more exciting then others but like margret said people need to keep in mind the respect and credit women deserve in sports.

Answering Meg's question they are both related in a couple of different ways. For one, like I said, I think it is just natural for us to think that women's sports are less exciting than men's, just like it is now natural to think that black people who want mortgages should have them at a higher rate. Another ways is that in the movie, certain events after World War II triggered this movement of racism in terms of business ethics. In terms of the discussion on sexism, I think the same thing has happened because ever since females have received more opportunities during the women's revolution, they have received this new identity that may make people in turn become sexist against them.

i agree with margaret. People dont appreciate the skill that woman also need to be in a professional sport. They only recieve recognition for their appearance.

I disagree with Ryan. I don't think that people have become sexist becasue of the growing opportunities that women have recieved. I think it is just natural for people to enjoy mens sports more because men are typically more naturally athletic and built for high intensity sports that may be more exciting to watch, such as football. However, when a female sports team is good such as the olympic soccer team and some female tennis players, I feel like people don't give them nearly as much credit as they should because a lot of guys just think that if a guy were playing that sport they would be better which isn't always true.

I agree with Margaret. Women don't receive as much credit as they should. I think that sports shouldn't be based on gender. There are some women that are more than capable of playing with males, yet they aren't because of their gender. I think that they should be based on the abilities and talent of the athlete playing the sport.
