Basia, I agree with you completely on your opinion that America is not the greatest force of good ever known. There have been a lot mistake made and other actions that have gotten America where it is today. So therefore I also disagree with McCain's statement like Basia. I feel like overall America is trying to be as good as it possible can but in the world today nations need to be a little rough to stay on top and hold onto whatever power they have. Don't take me wrong, I love America and what we stand for but it's almost like we are put under peer pressure to have our government or anything be a certain way. Like if France made a brand new railroad system that could fly; America would try its best to have that new access of transportation as well. Now that example is more of a positive change but in war there is the arms race that still continues slowly today that puts America on the spot to stay on top with the best weapons possible.

America's awesome. Where else can you feel so free to be a citizen? I feel like America currently can be applied to the idea "More Money, More Problems". However if we took the financial issues out of America it appears that we would be be the ideal country to live in. Currently we are the most powerful country in the world, other countries are catching up but that is not to say that we will not continue to become more and more powerful. America is still growing like crazy. The reason so many people want to come to america is because it is the land of the BEST opportunities.

I agree with Nick in that America is the land of the best opportunities. However, being the land with the best opportunities does not mean we are the greatest force for good. As I stated previously, America's past history is not so peaceful. In order for us to become the greatest force for good, we msut acknowlegdge our past and admit to our faults and compensate those we hurt.

Basia I also agree with what nick says about america being the land of opportunity but I do not agree with you stance that us is not a great force of good. Yes we dont have the most peaceful past but also we have been working for good and to better ourselves in the process

I completely agree with you Kara. It's great that we are trying to better ourselves in the process but until we do that successfully, we cannot be considered the greatest force for good in the world. Until then, we must seek forgiveness from the people we hurt, and better support themselves and support them for the future.

Very true but I dont think in the past we were only trying to better ourselves but also the rest of the world. Many of the wars we have gotten in to in or past was to help other countries that need our help or to stop something bad that is happening in the world.

I see your point in saying that some wars, for example ww2, were ideas for trying to help us and help our allies. How was slavery something that helped the people who we enslaved? It was not an act of good. Because we enslaved so many innocent people, how can we considered the greatest force for good?

Basia, I love your point when you said, "we must seek forgiveness from the people we hurt..." I completely agree with that statement. America and the world has to realize that in order to make a better future we have to try to reset the past. Kara, I also agree with your statement that, "we have been working for good and to better ourselves in the process." I think its great that you emphasize that America is not perfect but we are trying to fix our mistakes.

Yes basia that is a good point I do know and think that everyone has bad things in their past including america. At the time we were very wrong and doing a horrible thing. But since then we have worked to make sure that everyone is equal and has the same opportunities. We have been trying to right or wrongs.

I do not think your statement of everyone being equal is accurate. Whites in this country receive more benefits than minorities receive, thus not making them equal.

In someways I guess they do but actually the country as been working on making sure they have more equal opportunities now and in the future.

I have that same question Basia, How can we be considered the greatest force for good? maybe we are a little bit more considered for good then before but we are definetly not the greatest. The statistics for many wars that the U.S. took part of are outstandingly awful from all of the death and destruction that occured. Even from the ignorance that the U.S. took part of to help other countries in need show how the U.S. is not the greatest.

Basia you make some great points but i have to disagree with what you said 'we must seek forgiveness from the people we hurt'. This sounds great theoretically but in actuality i don't think it's realistic. I mean we hurt Germany but they were killing thousands of jewish people does that mean we have to apologize and ask forginess? I would think not. The notion of forgiveness though is definately a powerful one and i agree that it would better us as a country but it just depends how we use it and in what situations.

I think that we have the chance to be but right now we are stoping the growth of other countries. We go to war for the wrong reasons and we olny go to war if it can help us in some way and if the people want us in are own country to. But I dont think we go to war to help others just olny are needs.

I would have to agree with the last few comments about America not being the greatest force for good the world has ever known. First of all, there are other countries such as England and other countries of the United Kingdom who have been there with the United States the whole way. Saying that we are the greatest force of good the world has ever known is a bit ignorant because if McCain would have lived in the 1700s he would have said the same about Great Britain. Furthermore, we have bad several errors in the past. Our most popular company called apple has imposed some grueling duties and working situations on other countries that it is really humiliating to think that we would allow that. We have also caused a lot of unnecessary damage in Iraq and other places. Especially in a time like today, this statement by McCain can't be accurate.
