How much of a moral obligation do you think that the government has to regulate the world of business?

I believe that the government has no moral obligation to regulate businesses, rather businesses have a moral obligations to regulate themselves. If you are being forced to do something and have no say in it, then you are not making any moral decisions. therefore, if the government were to force businesses to do what the government sees as moral, businesses would have no stake in their own morality. If businesses have a moral obligation to regulate themselves with moral standards in mind then, they are morally accountable for their decisions, allowing personal accountability which is the basis of all morality.

Now I'm not fully decided on this topic yet, but I was doing some research about what the government does and it came up saying things about the government regulating employees rights and protecting the environment. They also make sure that the amount of power a business had isn't too much. I'm still not decided, so I don't want to get attacked for saying this, but these seem like important things. I believe in personal responsibility but not everybody is responsible and it might be a good idea to have guidelines.
